Posted or Updated on 22 Sep 2023
From 1st June 2023 the law around organ donation is changing to an opt-out system, to be known as Dáithí’s Law. This means, in the event that organ donation is a possibility after you pass away, all adults will be considered as a potential organ donor unless they have registered a decision not to donate or are in an excluded group. if an individual does not wish to be considered as an organ donor then they will need to opt out on the NHS Organ Donor Register at www.organdonationni.infor/register-now
90% of people in Norther Ireland support organ donation but just 53% of the population in Northern Ireland are registered organ donors.
